I’m a terrible juggler which might explain why I can handle putting together a good, albeit plain OOTD and perfect makeup, but my four-day-old hair needs some serious attention.
Hello! I'm looking at quite a few camping and backpacking trips this summer. Clearly, I won't wear any makeup, but a girl still needs to wash her face! Anything I use must be unscented so as to not attract bugs or animals in the backcountry. Any suggestions?
Sounds like your summer is shaping up quite nicely! Here are a few of my favorite travel-friendly, synthetic fragrance-free cleansing options:
1) Bioderma ($8.06 for 100mL)
2) Josie Maran Bare Naked Wipes ($12 for 30 wipes)
3) Fresh Umbrian Clay Treatment Bar ($38 for 7.8 oz) - I know it sounds like a crazy option, but this one bar is a one-thing-does-it-all cleansing machine made solely from umbrian clay and Fuller’s earth. It could very well be the only soap you need for face and body the entire time you’re camping and you don’t have to worry about it taking up too much space or leaking in your backpack.
Happy trails to you!
Opinion Nothing’s Guide to Life and Makeup #1:
Always: use base and topcoat; carry a Band-Aid; wear your signature scent.
Never: say no to brunch; tweeze without a plan; use a tester without sanitizing.
Believe it or not, this is a brush for humans.
The Tangle Teezer, in its variety of sizes and colors, is my favorite brush in the history of brushes. It’s comfortable to hold and the flexible plastic bristles give my scalp a nice massage while gliding through knotted hair with ease. There’s not much else to say about a brush. It’s small, effective, and I like it.
Not in the UK, but ready to hop on the Tangle Teezer train? Amazon has you covered! I purchased my black and gold Tangle Teezer Compact Styler here.
Because I’m severely ill when it comes to makeup, I couldn’t resist purchasing MAC’s RiRi Woo lipstick even though I previously told myself I didn’t need it. I got sucked into the hype and here I am with a fresh UPS delivery. I love Ruby Woo and I doubt my untrained eye will even notice a difference between the two.
If you missed out on RiRi Woo, don’t panic. According to MAC’s Facebook page, RiRi Woo will be available for purchase again sometime in June.

From left to right, top to bottom: Pierre Hardy x NARS blush in Boys Don’t Cry (c/o), MAC Corduroy, MAC Dazzlelight, SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense with SPF 50, Chanel Perfection Lumiere in BR30, Avon Ultra Luxury Brow Liner in Light Golden Brown (c/o), Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal eyeliner in Nude, YSL Touche Éclat, YSL Rouge Volupté lipstick in Luscious Pink #23.
Luscious Pink is a little drying on the lips, but the color is too perfect. Also perfect? That little PYT from NARS’ latest collaboration with Pierre Hardy. I wish the design wasn’t an overspray, but I guess it’s just a reminder that nothing gold can stay.
I just hate-purchased MAC’s new, limited edition Riri Woo lipstick.
I’m not a Rihanna fan for many reasons, but I LOVE Ruby Woo so I couldn’t stay away. An online queue formed just before 12pm EDT and I was able to get one in my cart right away, but I had a problem with the log in page timing out a few times. After about ten minutes, my purchase was complete.
Did you purchase or want to purchase Riri Woo? It looks like MAC is still letting people into the queue online!
If I were to buy some Real Techniques brushes, which ones are worth buying? Actually, which are your favorite brushes to use in general. Any brand, for powder, foundation, blush etc.
My brush collection is an odd mix of high and low, but my list of favorites below prove that it doesn’t cost a lot to stock up on the best tools.
FACE: Real Techniques buffing brush (part of the Core Collection) for full, flawless coverage, stippling brush for light coverage, and MAC #188 for lightest coverage (think tinted moisturizers).
Cheeks: Real Techniques blush brush for ultra-pigmented blushes, NARS Yachiyo Kabuki Brush for precise blush application and highlighting.
Eyes: MAC #224 (and #226 if you can ever find it!) for crease work and blending (it can also double as a concealer brush as long as it’s squeeky clean), NARS #3 for allover lid color, Ecotools angled eyeliner brush for creams, gels, and applying shadow to the lash line.
How old are you? Don't you have to be a certain age to start using Retinol products?

Anonymous
I’m 29 years old and quickly approaching 30. I like to use products that contain retinol around my eye area because they’re great for stimulating collagen production and targeting deep wrinkles, one of the telltale signs of aging.
There’s no set timeline for using products with specific ingredients, eye creams or otherwise, but I do think everyone can benefit from a skincare regimen that includes an eye cream (or two). The most important thing is to find a product that meets your skincare needs.
My personal skincare philosophy is to keep my expectations in check (I’m not a teenager and I don’t expect to look like one…) and to take care of my skin the best possible way I can. For me, that means retinol, SPF, and lots of hydration.

I went to the optometrist today. Do you have any idea how much mascara ends up stuck to your eyeballs?! A LOT. So much in fact, I vow to spend five minutes every night thoroughly removing all traces of eye makeup and will never, ever sleep in my makeup again. </empty promises>
On to the fun stuff, ok? I know you’re dying to know more about this NARS palette. It’s one of three pieces included in a new gift set called NARS HEARTS NEW YORK CITY. Amour blush and Laguna bronzer for cheeks. Biarritz, Nepal, New York and Galapagos for eyes. Perfect, right? Did I mention the set also comes with Chinatown for nails and Dolce Vita gloss for lips? All of the city’s most popular shades wrapped up in a bow.
The limited edition NARS HEARTS NEW YORK CITY gift set will be available tomorrow, May 1st, for $75 at select NARS retailers including Barneys, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel, and Bloomingdale’s Soho.
My lip pencil limit does not exist. I can’t wait to pair these glossy mark Color Me In lip crayons (c/o) with bright cheeks and 47 coats of mascara. Coming soon to a Today’s Face near you.
